bent forks?

i took my xj750 for inspection and the inspector seems to think the forks are offset bent i mention they might need a kit through them or it might be because the antidive units have been bypased he didnt know what antidives where and he wasnt optimistic about seals anyways im sure its been dropped at some stage what kind of forks off other bikes also fit this that make it ride and mounouver to a u turn mounouver this is what he couldnt do

 

Get yourself two broomsticks. Lash them to the forks one above the other. Use them as a set of parallels to sight down the forks to see if they are just misaligned in the trees.
If you see both sticks then the forks are likely twisted in the trees. Undo the pinch bolts, set the wheel against something that won't move, twist the bars until you only see one broomstick, and re-tighten the pinch bolts.

If tht thought is that the forks are bent longitudinally then you can check for straightness with..... a straight edge. Since you want to replace seals you can roll the upper tubes on a flat plate of glass (or a table-saw bed if you have one handy) to see if they are bent.

Bypassing the anti-dive will not cause the forks to twist or bend. All the parts needed to rebuild the forks (and the anti-dive) are available through Chacal.

the XJ750X and RL models are 37mm.

1983 (supposedly) Turbo Seca.
Measure the OD of the (chrome) fork tubes, 1982 models used 36mm fork tubes, 1983 models used 37mm tubes.

another issue why it flunked is the neutral light on dash it doesnt light up i got a new bulb for it and traced the wiring seems all good as far as i can trace it is there any fixes for this

 

all good i found the neutral safety switches hiding .the wire on it is rusty il give it a clean n sea what happens ...lol at 1st i mistook the oil pressure sender for the n s w ended up with oil all over the garage floor ohwel i needed to change it anyway

 

Is that the inspection to get your sticker/show that it is roadworthy?

 

yes to licence it there where a couple of things the forks the neutral light and leaking brake fluid wich there is no fluid leaks i just made a mess at the master cylinder

 

It would take a pretty serious impact to bend the forks.

Curious, the burden of proof falls on you to prove they aren't bent, rather than the inspector having to show that they are? That's kinda messed up. If someone tried to tell me mine were bent, I'd say "prove it"!

Whenever they "inspected" my bikes it was horn, turns, light, brakes and tires. Took a minute.
But then again, it is the US...

 

If your forks are really bent, then there's probably more then just your forks that are bent. ??

 

i looked at them out of alighnment definately not sure about bent ..but when i took apart the brake calipers there was a bit of fur in them maybe previuous owner hit an animal
