I just put new spark plugs and coils on my 82 xj750. Always a pain to start choke on wait for it to pop over then run choke for at least a few minutes before turning choke off or it will stall. Figured carbs need clean. I pulled them off took apart the carbs clean everything with carb clean. Took plunger out, jets out, floats. Made sure everything wasn't plugged up. Put back on bike and primed the carbs. Crank and no fire. Sprayed starter fluid... just a little and it fires. It seems like no fuel is getting thru the carb. Took off again and nothing I can tell it bad or plugged. Manually filled the bowls... still nothing. I got it to burn for about ten seconds but with full throttle only revs to about 3k. Am I missing something? I know the carbs are in synch. Any help appreciated... oh and the peacock works fine too.

If the carbs are truly clean, it seems that fuel is your problem... are you running a fuel filter? Might not be allowing enough go juice. Could it be a collapsed or pinched line? Vacuum leak or disconnected hose? Just a few ideas to check out...

Rad through the link below and confirm that you did everything.

    IN THE CHURCH OF CLEAN

My first thought is that the enrichment jets in the carb bowls are plugged.
Did you remove the idle mixure screws and clean those passages too?

You're only running on partial circuits. You're not getting all fuel through the idle and mains.

You're still clogged somewhere or you have floats still sticking.

Also, what did you set your floats at?

All hoses are connected and bowls are full of gas. Made sure battery was charged. It'll just start to grab but then dies as soon as I let off the starter. I make have a vacuum leak in the air intake hoses.

You'd have to have an incredibly HUGE. Air leak to prevent it from starting.

Again I ask--what did you set your floats at?

Also, did you verify that you put the jets back in their correct places? Some ARE interchangeable.

    @Nathan Jones
It would be very helpful if you were to answer the questions we have asked. Without that information we can't be of any help, and we want to help.

Yes the Jets are in the right spot. I have a manual for it. I did notice that one of the fuel fix screws is stripped on carb number 3. I need to find a way to take it out and clean that area.

Verify how you know the are clean..... did you squirt the spray in your eyes? Did you reach 5ft?

The manual is wrong about the placement of the air jets.

    This is the correct placement.

Yup, they need to be set. There's whole process which I'm sure someone more helpful than me will help you with. I'm too lazy today to search the link. We got hit with 2 feet of snow, and whiskey works too well on my tired back.

Only multiple (disappointing) dustings in SW Ohio. There was a Red Tailed hawk in the back yard earlier, so that's something.

We got a fair 70 cm of snow in the last storm (pretty close to 30 inches, I guess), and it ain't finished yet. I use to shovel my parking spaces, did them 4 times today, my back is ok but my arms and shoulders are tired of it. It looked like riding weather two days ago, crazy weather...

    So....
Even though we don't get a lot of snow where I live (usually less than a foot per event, and no more than 3 feet per season; except when it's more), one of the first things I did was get a garden tractor and a snow blade. Shoveling is a PITA, but plowing.....so much fun.

Hello guys interesting post because I seem to have the same problem with my 1982 650 seca!! was working fine last fall then did the carb cleaning this winter (o-ring, gasket, jet kit) floats adjusted at 17,5mm. Valves clearance checked and original airbox. Now it doesnt start: spark is good, battery full charge.. it seems no gas is going through.. didnt try with starting fluid yet. you have an idea?? Thanks!
