Alrighty folks, here's the sitch. I ordered some carburetor slide diaphragms for my '82 750 Maxim. I have a small tear in one of em and the other ones are surely original. I figure I would just replace all 4 in one go. One of my cinch rings is split and I think I maaay see a crack starting in another one.
It seems to me like the cinch rings are pressed on though and they do not seem serviceable at all...
Is there a way to replace the diaphragms and now that I've noticed the split in the cinch rings, I guess I would ideally be looking to replace that too.

    Thanks,
    Cole

There is a company that is making diaphragms,
I can't remember the name.... maybe BT-sonething or other, but someone here will know. I've seen some of them, I'm not to keen on them yet.

There's this place, but I have no idea how good they are: http://jbmindustries.com/HITACHI.html

I've heard of issues with just replacing the diaphram, so I patched with Chacal's RnR Fluid and I'm saving my money for a day I can buy the whole diaphram and piston assembly.

But I just had pinholes. Not sure about small tears.

Have installed a couple of sets and very happy with the results.

They do not have an index bump on the outside, so care must be taken when installing them with orientation of the slide so the air holes in bottom are towards the engine.

I've been curious about the longevity of them, compared to originals. Your thoughts, @Toomanybikes ?

NRP-Carbs.co.uk does them too....in the Uk, obviously, he sourced them from longer lasting rubber ( ask me how I know) the cinch rings can be removed but it's NOT easy !!

You can repair them with a latex condom or glove cut a patch rubber cement or light RTV , when I had my Virago , on the forum seen posters that stated this trick worked great .

On the subject of the jbm diaphragms, I've had them in my fj1100 and xj650 for over 5 years and they work without fault.

The jbm site offers all the info you need, best money you'll ever spend

    Thanks a bunch folks.
I'll try the patch-job for now and see how that treats me. If it doesnt work out then its great to know there are alternative!

    Cheers

Cole where in Canada are you ? I have a few sets of carbs that have been cannibalized for spare bits and I probably have a couple of slides that are good.

I'm near High Level, northern Alberta, right now. If these fixes don't end up working for me then replacing the whole slide looks like it'll be the way to go.
What would you be wanting to get for them?

Are they all bad? May be easier to set you up with a complete set of good carbs

Have a set that has been “done” including jbm diaphragms, throttle shaft seals. Full tear down. Just plug and play for your bike.
    82,83 XJ750 Maxim Canadian spec.
