Im currently working on a build of a XJ700 Air cooled, and I'm about to start electrical work once I finish work on the engine. My question now is how difficult it would be to make a new one from scratch? Im gonna be changing all of the lights and switches and ive heard of the motogadget mo.unit making things easier. Would it be worth it to use one of these for making a harness?

I suppose it depends on how much gets changed and your end goal. If you update the switches, but the function and location are the same, it probably makes sense to upgrade to Weatherpack style connectors on a stock harness, since you will need to be building new ends for your switches anyhow. Keeping the stock connectors and butt splicing the individual wires to the handlebar controls is another option. The Motogadget equipment is another level of customization and definitely not something just to make it easier. Building a complete harness from scratch is no small task. Again, depends on your wants, but starting with a stock harness and modifying is best unless you have a ton of custom stuff in mind (e.g. totally hidden wires, all digital systems, additional custom electronics).

@Mezzmo documented the Motogadget stuff really well in his XJ650 build on his YouTube channel MezzmoEngineering.
