I use an old school Dwyer differential gauge type manometer(magnehelic) and it works great. No reason that one wont work .

It is NOT a personal safety device.

Wow, that's a wealth of knowledge gentlemen! ;)

Look out for the review when I buy one and see how they go. I might even post pics...

The only down side I see to the digital manometer you provided the link to is that you can only connect two carbs at one time. You can get the carbs in sync, but will have to be swapping hoses as you go through the carbs. I use the Morgan CarbTune Pro and like that I can connect all four carbs and quickly get them in sync.

Totally agree but the Morgan is nearly 3 times the cost. I can't imagine having much use for either the Morgan or the digital manometer other than the odd carb sync, so the cheaper the better.

are you sure that will work? +/- 2psi doesn't seem like enough range.
maybe someone with a gauge remembers what numbers they saw

If you bench sync the carbs first like you are suppose to it won't be a problem. Remember it will be reading differential pressure. My gauge reads 0 to 15 inches water and if properly bench synced it will come close to pegging the gauge.

More tubing, t-fittings, aquarium filter valves. All carbs can then be hooked up, and you can switch which ones that manometer is reading from as you work.

2 PSI is 4" of HG, and 55" of H2O. Plenty of range.

The digital manometer was delivered to my office today and was met with many humorous comments about what the "man-o-meter" actually measures. Here's a quick photo. I'll post details when I give it a go on the XJ.

Here's hoping it works well. At that price, I'd happily grab one too. $35CDN... Hell, making myself a DIY one would cost just about as much =/

Bit of a long story but in the end I took the bike to a shop with experience (in XJs) to do the final tune on the carbs. It's running really nicely so I'm happy. Rode it to work today for the first time!

When I did hook the digital manometer up to the bench synched carbs, the readings fluctuated wildly and even beyond the scale of the meter at times. It was hard to get a real visual of what the problem was, or which carb I needed to adjust. This is the advantage of a normal manometer because you can see variance quickly and work out what you need to do - no interpreting numbers.

could be you need to do what has to be done for a vac guage add a connector with a tiny tube(orafic) like the straw from a can of carb cleaner to slow down the "jump"

I like my big, 5 foot homemade manometer for this reason! I can see if from across the garage if necessary. (Actually, I lean it on the handlebars).
