Soooo... I bought this bike about 2 months (1982 Yamaha XJ 650 Maxim) ago on FB market place got it running, had a lot of fun on it. The past two rides I've taken it on I slowly began to lose power when attempting to accelerate until my bike would roll to a complete stop. This would happen about 4 minutes into the ride. I suspected an issue with my stator so I ran some tests on the bike with a multi meter and received the results listed on the image of the blue sticky note. I'm taking this as a sign to replace the stator, however I can't seem to find anything online or in the owners manuel that tells me where the stator is. I also should note that I attempted a grounding test on the battery I put the negative prong of my multimeter on the negative terminal and positive prong on the motor casing. I got a resistance reading of 7.4 ohms. I'm not sure if this is normal. Please help me locate the stator as well as give any additional suggestions as to what may be wrong with the bike. I have included pictures to reference.

The stator is under that larger round cover just under the carbs and in front of the starter. Your note states battery 14.3V, but doesn't say under what conditions. However, if that battery voltage was done at a slightly raised RPM I would say you have a working charging system and subsequently a good stator.

That sounds more like running out of gas - how do you get the bike restarted and get it home?

Pop the gas cap next time it dies and if that solved the issue, then it means that the cap vent is plugged up.
