Electrical Problem

    HELP: 83 XJ900 - Turned bike on. Completely dead except the neutral light comes on, with ignition. Battery new. Some component has died, but where to look??

    Start at the starter switch and check for dirt, corrosion, loose wires and worn connector block terminals. Also check the wire from the battery to the starter motor and the earth wire at the engine. You can also check the condition of the ignition switch itself, over a period of time the switch internals get worn. Don't forget any of the connector blocks to any component as they attract dirt and corrosion over time.
