Engine guards

i am currently messaging a person that is a set of the 81-83 engine guards. He isn't on this site so far as I'm aware of. I also know that something is worth what someone is willing to pay. Obviously if he agrees to sell them I am at a loss as to what the "market value " for them would be. Any help is appreciated here as I really do t want to take advantage of him nor myself. Thanks

That style is super rare. Usually you see the "Tubular" type go between $75 and $150 for a set depending on condition.

Just be aware that although those style guards are the neatest-looking thing since sliced bread, they are also pretty worthless as engine guards, being made of a cast aluminum material..........

 

Completely understood I have a set of hoop guards I've taken off just because of my preference

 

As I understand, most engine guards manufactured after the mid 80s are of a steel tubing that is too thin to do any real guarding. More likely, they will bend and trap your foot, dragging you along with the bike. I don't have any real scientific evidence to support this, just the word of a Rebel guru from another forum.
In my opinion, the cast guards from Yamaha listed above look good on the x, but most aftermarket tube guards ruin the lines of the bike and look pretty stupid.

 

Even gurus can be ignorant.
There are some lightweight "case guards" out there, but they are usually sold as accessory mounts, not as case guards.

 

Yeah, as I said, I have no scientific evidence, simply anecdotal... and the "guru" is kinda a dick. When I eventually get banned from the other forum, it'll be for butting heads with him. But in my defense, this is the Hangout Lounge, so technical evidence isn't required!
