I'm willing to give it a try on a spare tank that I have. Also was thinking it may be good to use on an old (rare) BMX bike that's all chrome that I've been needing to restore.

The rebate is just icing on the cake. Thanks!

If it was summer time I think I'd be looking into a road trip to Port Huron, at almost fifty bucks a gallon here compared to less than 20 across the border, getting a few gallons to bring home would pay for itself!
Note to self, "road trip when it warms up"!

Ah, folks, diet Coke is a lot cheaper than $25 + per gallon. Leave it sit overnight in your tank, just like the evaporust, and when you empty it out, rust will be gone and the metal coated with a nice grey sealant.

Actually, the interaction of the phosphurc acid with the metal does create a form of coating/sealant whereever the acid made long contact (at this concentration, it works pretty slowly). If you notice, you will see that the bare metal is bright and shiny (when clean) where as putting it in the diet coke/phosphoric acid leaves it looking a dull battleship grey.

Did the old tank with the Evapo-rust and it worked quite well. It did leave a kind of galvanized look to it in some spots, but I know it is clean inside now. Added a bit of engine oil to coat the bare metal while I await having my friend shoot a new paint job on the exterior of the tank and all the parts.

I also used it on the old BMX bike and am very surprised that it came out so nice. It did require some elbow grease to get the shine back to the chrome though. Got that stored in a plastic crate and will do a resto on it next winter.

I still have plenty left for the next project.
