I have a 1982 XJ650RJC Seca. I love the way it sounds, it is one of my favorite things about the bike. However the left pipe has a hole in it and someone who owned it before me welded the current pipes onto the collector pipe (and not very well I might add).
The header pipes are fine but at that point I figure I might as well replace it all. I was thinking I would like as close to the original set up as possible, but then I hear people talk about the 4 into 1 exhaust being pretty sweet too. Just looking for advice on what I should do (and what i shouldn't) and where I should go to look for exhausts. I am in Canada so a supplier in Canada or the USA would be preferable.

Thanks in advance, you guys are deadly!

    Okay.
    Honesty here.
I have 2 xjs both (nearly 10 years now) have had multiple custom exhausts and now both have new Australian transac 4into1 exhausts (shiney!).

I have read and learnt and am still tuning my carbs because of this.

CV carbs are basically what they are, tuned to the velocity/pressure of the gunk going through them and the differential vacuum via a Venturi concept to raise/lower the main jet needles.

So your blocked air filter or your shite exhaust or your high altitude can cause issues... Good times.

I will get mine to work properly eventually, but it is not for the faint hearted.

Drilling out slides, changing needle heights altering jets argh.

Genuine exhaust, air box etc would be best for maximum power/acceleration without carb modifications :(

So yeah. Think about getting off from the lights fast or winding out on the straight or acceleration at low rpm or nice sound.

They are all part of this parcel. Still it's nice to have a hobby as everyone tells me when I complain.

    I'm getting close damnit!
