Fix Broken Spine on Manuals

I was just reading a post today and, there was a mention of a broken spine on the manual (Rick). I'm sure that we've all had this problem one time or another. Mine would only open up to the clutch replacement section and, as the crack on the spine got weaker & weaker pages started to fall out. I took my manual down to Kinko's and, for $5 they cut the old spine off and, punched a bunch of holes in it to accept a spiral notebook type spring. I can now open my manual to any page & fold it over so it stays only on the page that I'm looking at. Just a simple fix that made my manual sooooo much user friendly. Hope that this helps anyone with the same problem.

First thing I do when I buy a technical manual is either take it apart one page at a tiime and 3 hole punch it at home or take it to Kinkos and have them cut the spine off and drill it for a 3 hole binder.

I let Kinkos do the work for me if there is enough margin on the left side of the page to allow 1/4 o 3/8 of an inch of the page to disappear when they cut off the spine.

Ken is so right about this treatment taming the manual. They lay flat on any page. If you are doing something really messy, pull out the page(s), copy them and grease up the copies.

My factory books came 3-hole punched. It's definitely the hot ticket.
