Flickering lights

    Hi all ..as a non sparky I was after some advic as to the reason the lights on my 1982 XJ750 Seca flicker on tick over but are fine at revs. Could it be alternator or regulator probs..thanks in advance.

    This is normal as engine is reved from idle the altnator charges more . My seca does this to as does my VW aircooled beetle you do not from the sound of it have a problem . One test you can do is put a volt meter on the battery start bike voltage at idle with a fully charged battery is around 13 volts rev engine to around 2500 rpm voltage around 13.5 to 14 volts is normal . ( any more there is a problem)Yes it is a 12 volt system but 2 volts more charges battery same principle for a battery charger.

    Make sure that the alternator brushes are in good condition.

    Make sure that the fusebox is in excellent condition, and that all the wiring harness plugs are clean and tight. Look for any signs of chafed or pinched wires.

    Dimming lights at idle is normal, but flickering is not.
