8O Fuel leaking from airbox breather pipe - lost @ 1 gallon overnight whilst parked up. Was reluctant to start yesterday, and running like only three cylinders working, with strong smell of petrol.
Took air filter out and black stained - gave it a knock. Gave each carburettor a 'tap' with soft hammer, in case slides or piston stuck?
Left air filter out, and started - gone to get more fuel? - Any ideas??

Symptoms of a stuck float or too high fuel levels. Requires carb removal and setting fuel levels.

Hoping it is the air filter needs replacing. Just been up to garage, put more fuel in and returned (with air filter removed). Stopped leaking now, and sent for new air filter. Going on short trip soon, and will review symptoms. (idle at temperature has obviously gone up to 1400rpm, with air filter removed)
    Update later.
    Thanks for all replies! :)

STOP. DO NOT RUN THE MOTOR.

YOUR OIL is very likely now seriously diluted with gasoline; do not run the motor until verified (and you will probably need to change the oil.)

Open the oil filler cap, stick your nose in and have a whiff. If it smells strongly of petrol (instead of just old, warm oil) then change the oil.

You have/had a stuck float. The air filter didn't cause it. The above advice is correct, you need to attend to your floats.

Yes Fitz, it was exactly what you said - took oil fill plug off and could smell gas. Changed oil. Bike runs ok, but obviously wet setting needed as engine will die when at required idle of 1050-1100, (have to keep accelerator slightly turned up whilst at lights whatever) or will only idle at @ 1800, when 'tweaked' up on the idle control knob about 1/16 turn!
I'm on that now - will check all float levels - bench sync, then guage sync when reinstalled carbs.
