Gas Tank question, party people.

Hello again! Ive found much more interesting information on this board than anywhere, and I must thank the XJ community. Now, I ask another stupid question. I recently purchased a 1980 XJ650 Maxim, and I wanted to pretty-up that gas tank. Upon peeling it off, I discover that it is pretty rusted, which is easily solved by the suggestions on this board... even more bothersome is that removing the Yamaha emblems that are screwed to the tank reveal a bracket... that is welded on.

I've read on here that the 750 tanks Yamaha logo is adhesive, as opposed to screwed and welded... and I'd very much like to work with the whole tank in regards to the paint job. Is anyone able to tell me if these tanks are interchangeable? I'm also cheap... So I'm curious to know if anyone has an idea around the brackets...

The tanks will interchange,and the 750 tank will give you a greater fuel capacity.These tanks usually command a hefty price,as they are very sought after. The emblem mounting areas of your current tank are easily filled with common body filler (after proper preparation,of course). Filling your emblem mounts AND repainting the tank and sidecovers may well be cheaper than buying a used 750 tank of questionable condition (ebay sellers are often less than reputable-who'd of thunk it?!).
