    Hey all,
    I recently purchased an 82 xj650.
The previous owner chopped the back and made a bobber (not mad about it), but I'd like to be able to put a sportster 2 up seat on it. Do I need to find a welder to create the support from the frame for the seat to sit on, or is there a way to anchor it to the fender?

Maybe post some pics of what you have, or what's left of the frame, I know someone here can help you.

Personally , I would probably have a seat subframe made to attach to your bike frame, but you may be fine attaching to the fender , how strong and solid is it?

You'll need to weld on a subframe in order to attach a longer (or a second) seat.

Would Home Depot be a good place to grab that metal for the frame, or do I need something specific?

Home Depot will not have structural steel. You'll want to either snag a scrap frame (this will be the cheapest in per-foot cost and if you shop well you can get the tailpeice from another Maxim 650), or get a length of DOM 4130 tubing of the same wall thickness as the existing frame tubes. Put up an ad in the wanted section. Someone around here might have what you need.
