horn is on same fuse as lights.
could be bulbs are burnt out but i would look at and clean the control and make sure the voltage feed wire and 2 outputwires is still soldered to the little pcboard and connections are clean

and of course disconnect all the connectors from lights to controler clean them and grease them
dielectric grease on the connectors spray with electrical cleaner, use a light silicon spray on the inside of the control to lube it

Ok, so I wired in new blinker lights and put new ends on the connections because the other ones were a mangled mess. That went well.
    KIMG0145.JPG
I ended up taking the left control box off and did like you said. Checked the soldered connections and they all seem sound (no wiggle and light tugging didn't move em.) Cleaned em up. Horn works still, but blinkers still aren't lighting up front or back. I'm gonna try and find one of my spare relays to see if that's the problem, and off to start replacing

    This mess.

Well, dooey me. Turns out I was thinking the starting/ignition cut off/neutral safety relay was the flasher relay. Turns out I had a spare flasher relay too so I put that in and low and behold I have flashers again.
    Redid my fuse box
    KIMG0146.JPG
Now it's perrtiful and functional both.
Next on the list is to get a valve shim tool and a valve cover gasket and check those/replace as necessary to make sure they're in spec... At least as long as nothing else goes wrong between now and then. Lol
Also going to get an LED light and flasher relay set up for the blinkers. I'm also toying around with the idea of making an independent blinker switch for each side. Push button toggle switch was my thought, but we'll have to see and I'll have to give some thought to whether it'd be a good personalized touch for me.

Ok, quick question for people who know more of wiring than me (which is very little.) If I were to put in independent toggles for blinkers. Seems logical to me you would need to wire a ground to both, left to left, right to right signal wires to each, and a hot wire to both. Hot to toggle with signal when depressed.
I'm thinking of push button switches. My thought was hot and signal touch when depressed creating a circuit and ground for each. All I have on my side is logic, which says it should be doable with a electronic flasher type relay and LED bulbs.
Up until I started delving into this website I didn't even know I had auto cancel, so not really a consideration.
I've really enjoyed reading, and the help I've gotten from everyone is phenomenal. The alum and heat lamp trick saved my bacon after all I could think of to do was exhausted. Goes to show two minds are better than one.
Xj550h. Your promptness with replies is much appreciated. Knowledge and speed make me a much smarter nincompoop. Not belittling all the other folks that have responded, but I feel he deserved a special mention :)

just do it the way yamaha does hot input to flasher then load wire to switch or switches switch on hot goes to bulb other side of bulb to ground.

you could use a 3 position toggle wire hot to center then switch left or right 003.JPG 002.JPG

if you want to use 2 switches just hook BR/w wire to each switch . if you do use 2 switches it would be possible to turn both sides on at same time which is not a good thing unless your flasher is ment for the load

Ok, so new development. I'm riding my bike to work every day, and after what I've done it was going good.
A few hours ago my front calipers seized. Luckily I was slowing down to go into a turn lane, but even so it got a bit squirrelly quite fast. No damage to me or the bike, but after I took the front calipers off and wired them out of the way I was able to limp her home running rear brakes and upsetting the people behind me with my slow speed.
My front upper forks are bent from a prior situation.
    My question is this.
Is there any full front end that I can swap to my 750 Seca that is a direct swap?
There's a 650 Seca at the bone yard that I'm looking at, but not sure if it'll work, so delving into the amassed knowledge here hoping for a quick fix so I can get back to riding.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Swap the forks from a 750 maxim. All you lose is the anti dive stuff. Otherwise, it's the same

I don't think it is all that ugly. Put a screw on rubber switch boot over it to help be more weather resistant and you should be long term good to go.

So I've been working on my front end I had donated to me off an 80-81 650 maxim. It's been sitting outside since 2002 with a leaky tarp over it.

I've rebuilt the master cylinder 0715181750.jpg

It wasn't nice. Hard coagulated brake fluid all the way up to the diaphragm. That was fun, and I'll take a picture of it now when I get home.

    Rebuilt the caliper 0717181157.jpg

    Rebuilt the forks.

I have a tapered roller kit for when I transplant it onto my seca 750.
Stainless steel braided brake line I'm gonna put on it.
    I have a new tire.
    New brake pads.

The front fender was all rust underneath and dirty on top.
    0717181246.jpg
Cleaned up all the rust and painted it.

This was before I cleaned the top.
    0717181246a.jpg
    And after.
    0718181040.jpg
It shined up really nice. Gotta love tin foil.
I'll take more pictures when I have it all together and on the bike.
I do have a quick question. It didn't have a headlight, so I picked one up.
According to bike bandit a seca headlight is 12v 60/55w halogen.
The 2009 Yamaha v-star 1300 bulb is the same.
Will there be any issues if I wire it in? I guess I'm wondering if it'll blow a fuse or melt any wiring. Electrically speaking it seems like it should work ok, but I wanted a second opinion from someone who knows wiring better than me.

Well, I got her all together again with the new front end. Needed to fabricate a headlight bracket to hold the 09 headlight in the original 650 bracket, but I think it turned out ok. 20180801_121615.jpg

Well that doesn't hurt my feelings too badly. Combined with whatever dials are on there, you've un uglied the 750!
