    The same storm after it moved north killed the power for hours last night at the mill i work at . Took all night to get the place back up and running . We had land strikes all around up last night

    It doesn't. The motorcyclist was the ground, the current passed (partally) through him, through the frame, throught the bearings, and wheels, and tires and into the earth. It was fortunate that his gear was wet; most of the current likely passed to ground through the film of water on his gear.

    Tires are not insulators when dealing with high voltage electrical discharge. The reason that people are safer in cars isn't the tires, it's the cage that they are in. A car is a farady cage; don't touch the sides of the vehicle during a lightning storm and you'll stay uninjured (same goes for having a power line fall on your cage.
