Hi guys! It's Smackie. I haven't posted an update in QUITE some time. About 6 months o_O hehe. But I come bearing good news, this is part 2 of Fixing up a poor abandoned Xj750, first post here --> Hello World!

TLDR: She runs super good, I've been riding her for about a week and it's the time of my life! Shifts super good and I've already maxed out the speedometer, not saying much... Am too scared to go on the Highway right now because I don't trust her to stay that high speed on the highest gear possibly getting almost redline rpms, and that's before we talk about actually being on the highway with other cars (I live in Utah, drivers suck here). Did a bunch of work and still have stuff to do, but she RUNS! and runs good so thats what matters!

    Everything I've done,
    • New Sparkplugs
    • New HandGrips! (Courtesy of Chacal) :D
    • New Air Filter
    • New Oil Filter
    • New Oil (Had to get a mechanic to get the sump bolt and filter bolt off because I didn't have the right socket size, get a socket kit friends! ;))
    • New Tires (was an absolute chore learning how to get the tires off the dang rim, but totally worth it)
    • Brakes: As an Immediate consequence of the Tires I learned how to Bleed the front brakes because someone, somewhere, at sometime (probably me) pressed the brake lever down while the caliper was off the disc, so the brake wouldn't fit back on the disc! Had to remove the caliper and pry the piston back into place (Thank goodness my dad had a socket set or else I would be screwed). Then Bled the brakes and replaced with fresh oil and MAN! Those brakes feel GOOD!
    • New Hypoid Gear oil for shaft drive.
    • New Mirrors (Got super cheap ones and now I'm bearing consequences of that, they are loosey Goosey But they get the job done)
    • Misc Items: Manual/Cover/BatteryTender
    • New Taillight bulb
    • FINALLY Transferred ownership to me by getting a title in my name and registering the bike (Way more expensive then I thought it would be :()
    • FUN FACT! I failed my DMV License online test 3 Times! And, Dropped my bike at the MSF riding test! The instructors by a Miracle of God let me pass!
Biggest Accomplishment so far has been Removing rust (for the most part) from the gas tank! It's now quite beautiful inside, except for some rust chilling at the bottom because I didn't remove the petcock when i was hosing it out. Idk if there is a fuel filter so I should probably fix that soon but I don't really want to :(

I've Learned a TON about motorcycles and fixing them from this one bike and I'd be a liar if I said it wasn't kind of a blast even though sometimes it made me want to go cry in a corner and give up! Push through! It pays off!

    What needs to be done:
    • Fuze/Fuze box (Found out today that my headlight is just randomly on, only fix is to tap the fuze box and pray it doesn't turn back on)
    • Tail light still doesn't work
    • Mostly Electrical issues :p
    • Filter spin on kit for fun!
Thank you for this forum and the help yall have given me, and thank you for reading this post :)!

Good for you! Once you get the XJ's sorted they are great for a long, long time. As long as you keep up with the routine maintenance. So nice to hear you are having so much fun with yours. Ride lots, ride far and ride safe. Thank you for saving another XJ from the scrapper.
