Has anyone ever been part of or owned a shop that rented out work bays to work on your own bike? I think it would be cool to own a shop like this.

A place like that opened up near my work. 24-hour access, heated, indoor, full shop with lift and tire changer. I really wanted to sign up, but have better uses for the money right now.

I've wondered about this as a business model.. Monthly subscription will always beat turn up and use. Like gym membership once your in it takes effort to cancel the subscription and most people are lazy.

There are a few places in brooklyn that offer it, but it also comes with optional yearly storage for the bike. The pay as you go for a work bay was very attractive to me, they gave you access to tools and other equipment for mechanical work and light fab work (welding and cutting). The down side is you cant do long projects, so if you pull the heads or split the case and find you snapped something... when its time to close the shop you have to stop and roll the bike off the lift/table and move everything to your allotted space (some places there were no allotted spaces or locker) or bring the parts home.

One recently closed down and turned back into a motorcycle mechanic shop with winter storage options.

seen a few come and go, the shops were not clubs just pay as you go
I wonder how much insurance runs in a shop like that.

Add a bar and a fella would never run out of customers willing to re-up their membership.
