Tank came out beautiful. Decided to take apart the sending unit and do that, too.

    cover came out spotless.

Main sending unit, about half- cleaned off with one overnight dip.

Second overnight dip - Uh-oh......like three times the rust on it now than when I put in. Lesson......DON'T hook the wires up backwards!!!!!! DOH.

Guess I start over again.....it's back in with the wires the right way.

I find this to be particularly hysterical! Mostly because the largest forewarning when running the process is to NOT do what you did. Also, great use of the Simpson reference. Its allows me to picture the a face of confusion and disbelief.

Luckily you know how to un-do what you did. Glad it, mostly, worked out for you. My tank is still full on the back porch...

Yeah, a moment of not paying attention. Part of the issue, though, was simple--

With the tank, it's easy--connect the neg. to the tank.

What I was doing was a smaller piece in a plastic bucket. The item to be cleaned is in the bucket, and the rod is in the bucket. The one piece kept spinning around, and by the time I got things hooked up and they wouldn't move, I got the wires hooked up backwards. Oh, well.

Next time around, I'm going the make a formal rig to do things in, along with 'signs and labels'.

I'll keep you posted on the 're-cleaning'.

I went out to take a peek.....

it's about a 1/3 of the way cleaned back off BUT the copper windings are now in pieces at the bottom of the bucket. So, I guess I have to surf ebay for a replacement now. Oh, well. In the meantime, I'm going to let it "cook" for awhile yet just to see if it actually does clean up the rest of the way........just for knowledge base.
