New guy from Sioux Falls, SD

Hey guys! Been lurking around here for about a month.. finally trailered home my project on Saturday so I figured I better sign up now!

I got this "82 XJ750 free from my brother - just had to drive all the way across the state and back to get it. It ran when he parked it almost 3 years ago but needs quite a bit to get her road worthy again. Odometer reads about 29K but the titles says 0 miles so I'm assuming it hasn't worked for awhile. This is my first bike so the plan is to get it road-worthy, get a few miles under my belt, and then this winter/next year we might strip it down to bare bones, hardtail rat-bobber style.

First question - should I switch to pods? Haha just kidding - relax!

This is my "inspiration bike" (built by Bare Bone bikes in florida - check out the youtube video (bare bone rat bobber) or their website. this bike is sick!!)- would love it to look something like this by the end of next year... we'll see.....

 

Congrats, and welcome. I love SD... mostly for the pheasants!

The thing about installing pods is that you'll need to rejet your carburetors. You OK with that? Then fine - go for it. I'm not that kinda guy, but that's because I like keeping things as stock as possible with my current bike.

Make sure you check your valve clearances and do a compression test prior to doing that. There are a lot of other threads on here, as I'm sure you saw, about the things you'll need to go through to make sure the bike is road worthy.
