Going to do wheel bearings on my 82 sec with 40 k, was wondering are the original bearings used better than the New off shore bearings. MaY just clean and grease the original Japanese ones. thoughts?

Most xj bikes are probably on original wheel bearings , some are probably well over the 40k mileage . I replaced mine on my Yellow Seca , but my Johnny Cash bike I'm leaving alone supposedly only had 9k . If you feel like replacing go for it , otherwise run with them as is . I don't recall what the manual states , but you might look at this , if you repack the bearing , you will destroy the seals . I know knocking out old bearings was not real easy either.

pretty sure the wheel bearings are sealed ,and cannot be re-greased, they are on my 600 anyway

The bearings can be regreased using a grease needle. The front weel bearings don't have inner shields anyway.
Still, new bearings don't cost much in comparison to a hospital stay.
