So I'm just cruising in my xj1100 and lose power all of a sudden. Fiddled with the ignition and it started again and could finish my ride. Couple days later go to start and had to hunt for the spot where the neutral light comes on. Started and after a brief warm uo kick in gear and it dies. Now , after rebuilding/ cleaning the ignition switch (much needed) , it will not light the neutral at all! I've checked the usual start relays and all seem to be ok, but nodda. Any help for this no power/no start issue would be greatly appreciated. I'm so frustrated.

Have you checked and changed out the old type of fuse box? If you still have the glass fuse system in the bike, make sure all the fuses are good and making good contact. The glass fuse holders brake, and sometimes you can't tell until the holder falls apart.

It might be that one of your safety switches is not working right. Check the side stand switch to make sure it is working. I know it sounds weird, and I don't think your loss of power and putting the bike in gear, and it dies are connected.

When cleaning the ignition switch it can get tricky. Good luck with the trouble shooting.

I have indeed swapped the tube fuses for a new panel , wired in with new style blades fuses, including the main power fuse. Easy soldering job to convert over. I have checked and cleaned the side stand switch. The stop/run as well. I marked and replaced precisely the keyways in the ignition switch after cleaning. But all this and the nuetral light will not come on
