Ah I see. They dont look like they have any wear, or at least uneven. Bill, I didnt mark them but I keep track of everything. I took Ricks idea of the cupcake tins, and I have them all marked like crazy for each number of carb. When I was doing these plungers the emulsifier tubes, I simply just kept them in order from 1-4 left to right. Of course, as waldo says, its probably best to keep everything where it was since parts can wear unevenly I think. Plus it helps to keep everything organized since you dont lose anything.

In case anyone was wondering, I got the carbs clean by giving a few rounds in the dish washer. It is the only thing (washing parts) it is used for in my place. I would spray it down with some degreaser, I think its called purple power or something. I let the degreaser soak on the carbs for 15 minutes and then threw them in. Cleaned them up real pretty.

As for polishing these parts, I also took Rick's idea after polishing up the choke rod. I put the parts in the drill, but tightened it just enough to hold it in place since they are brass and soft. I then lightly wetsanded with 1500, cleaned them and dried them, and then polished with tripoli on a soft rag. Just make sure you get the polish of of the emulsifier tube. It will build up in the holes if you use too much.

I will be taking my sweet time with this, so if anyone would like any pictures of anything, please let me know. Also Rick, if you would like to use any pictures for your extremely helpful tutorial, please do!

Today I think I will be polishing the insides of the carbs.

this thread is inspiring. the quick responses from everyone gives a bombarding amount of information to others quietly reading and gaining confidence. i have 4 weeks of christmas break at school approaching soon and would like to do something like this to my carbs.

schmuckaholic.. thanks for the pdf's you have provided on the first page of this thread. I will be using them as a guide in dads garage over the break and most likely will be asking questions when that time comes.

I am greatly appreciative of everyone's help on here. Ive practiced a bit before, since I hve like 6 racks of carbs I got with my KZP. Besides that I had really no idea on how to rebuild carbs, but Im getting there thanks to everyone's help here. When I get the chance, I will probably make bigger pictures of whats on the XJCD so its easier to see what parts are what. Ill also put a bunch of photos of my progress on a photobucket album that everyone can see.

I will have to repair my intake boots, and a crack on my air box and then I will throw them on the bike and see what happens.
