So I'm pulling into the parking ramp this morning. I kill the engine to have my hands available to push the button and take a ticket. Once the ticket's in my pocket, I switch the killswitch back to run, and hit the starter button.

    Click.

Cars begin to line up behind me. I turn the key to off, turn the killswitch back to off, turn them both back on, and hit the starter.

    Click.

I look down to make sure I didn't put the sidestand down, although I know I didn't. Sure enough, it's up. I hit the starter again.

    Click.

So I use my legs to get me and my bike far enough up the ramp where we're out of the way. I put the sidestand down, look at it quizzically, then, not knowing what to do, I try again. Sidestand up, key on, killswitch on, hit the starter...

    Vroom.

I ride it to a parking spot, and kill it and start it successfully about ten times in a row. No problems. I look at it quizzically again, then go to work.

Weather was cool and dry this morning.

    Any ideas?

Could be the killswitch itself causing the problems. You should never use the killswitch unless it is an emergency - always use the key. The killswitch interupts the starting circuit and it's possible that when you put it back to run that the contacts didn't have good enough contact or the relays were not pulling back in.
