1892 Yamaha XJ1100. Rear brake pedal doesn't return after depressing. Brakes work, it will stop the bike just fine, but it won't come up unless I hook my toe under it and pull it up.

Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance.

There is a rather stiff torsion (coil wound) spring around the pivot shaft (the splined shaft that the brake pedal fits onto), and this torsion spring is supposed to perform the brake pedal "return" function. The spring has one "hooked" end that fits into a hole in the lever arm of that pivot shaft.....it may have slipped out of the hole, or, the spring may have broken at that point (or somewhere else in its coils).

Well that seems pretty damn simple! I'll check when I get home and let you guys know! Do you happen to have a replacement spring Chacal?

    Thank you!

I had the same issue and solved it by removing the brake pivot shaft (pedal is on one side, rod going to rear brake lever on the other) cleaning it up real nice and greasing it. My spring wasn't broken, although probably weaker than a brand new one, but it springs right back like nobody's business now
