Hello everyone. Seeking some advice... I came across a Corbin seat that appears as though it will fit my XJ650 Maxim very well, but it will take a couple mods... In the front, I'm fairly sure I can get away with drilling into the seat pan in order to put the front mounts closer together so that they slide around the frame at the gas tank mount... The rear is a bit more complicated...

If you are familiar with the mounting style of said seat, there is only one mount in the rear, which would simply bolt to the rear fender. (It is a two-seater, with respect for the wife.) This is where I run into concern... The rear of the frame has a piece that is welded from one end of the frame to the other, and since the rear of the seat sits over that piece, the mount is spaces a couple/few inches away from the fender.

Would it be wise to chop this piece off? Would I be screwing with the structure? I see several chopper bikes with the rear cut all together at the shock mounts, which I think would be cool, and I'd love to mount a new fender of unknown origin, but I am concerned because the gorgeous bikes (like PainterD for example) are solo-seaters... Would a setup like this be able to support a passenger?

Any ideas are welcome! If you think a picture of the seat would help, let me know.

I cut my frame on my ride and it will carry two people. Take a look at my photo gallery and see.
