Someone out there will know this...
which other reg/rec from other bikes would be suitable for a '82 750 Maxim J
    was thinking even XJ600/900, XS?
My GS550 runs one from a 250 superdream - a common replacement option.

    82 XJ650J & 82 XS400J are both OK & I'm sure there will be more.

Be careful with the xj600 as those built after 1989 used permanent magnet alternators (No brushes). My 600 had been fitted with an earlier type regulator so it was chargigng the battery flat out all the time. I was able to fit a "Divvy 600" regulator for £15.

I just checked an xs400 one on ebay, and it only has 6 pins/wires.
I think its the DOHC engined model thats the same
I've found one from an xj900, he says its No 12r-ag/sh233 7.6.2. and 7 pins,
The number I need is 718880, but maybe its not the part number he's quoted but some kinda code?

I researched regulator/rectifiers for my 82 750 Maxim J and matched the part number to the following bikes...
    XJ 900F 83-94
    XS 400 DOHC 82-85
    FZ 600 84-92
    FJ 600 84-85
    XJ 650 Turbo 80-85
    XJ 700 85-86
This may be helpful to anyone else looking for a replacement,
    and there's probably others.
