Removing luggage and fairing

Hi there, new member to the forum.

I don't own an XJ yet, but I've been looking for a good early 80's Seca for quite some time now. I have my eye on one that has the full touring kit, which is what I want, but I also wanted to know how much trouble it is to remove all that stuff and just go "naked" with it too.

Can I just unbolt everything and have a complete bike, or are there some parts that need to be swapped out when the trunk and fairing are removed?

Is it a pain in the you-know-what to get them on and off, or is it a relatively easy swap?

If the bike is like mine which is a touring bike, You can easily remove the luggage from it but the chrome mountings would have to be unbolted. A somewhat laborus task but not that difficult. The fairing though can be removed without too much difficulty but mine has the head light built into the fairing so you'd be lightless, front turn signals too.
If you were to leave the fairing on but just remove the luggage it would look silly with just the chrome luggage mounts left on.
My opinion is get one or the other. A bare bke or a dresser or better yet get 2, 1 of each.

Thanks for the info. That pretty much tells me what I need to know. I hadn't thought about the fairing holding the headlight and turn signals, but now that I look at the pictures closer, I think you're right.
