Re: Wanted Feedback on my newest repaint design idea

Yet another revision. This should be the final for a while. I never came up with a tank design I LOVED so I just gave it a red strip for now.

The parts are away from home for painting now. I have no idea when I will pick them up. But it probably won't be right away.

Re: Wanted Feedback on my newest repaint design idea

For those still keeping an eye on this post, or new readers - I'm still not 100% satisfied with my design.

The parts are out of state to be painted. So I get to play in Photoshop all I want...

I'm still focusing on a Black Paint with White and Red 1/8" pin stripping tape. The 3M reflective tape I want to use is semi-permanent and will ruin my paint job if I take it off. This is why I'm trying to get a unified design/pattern I really like.

As usual I'm open to ideas, tweaks or comments (even if a revision looks horrible  )

01/13/11 More Red to give it true tri-color effect similar to era appropriate jackets I've seen/bought lately. Third stripe added and replaces the single horizontal red stripes I had.

Get a sign shop to cut you vynil cling ons so you can test fit your look before you finalize it. Hell leave the cling ons and change your design ever season

    Interesting idea :)

I'm also playing in photoshop with the red/white reversed with the above pattern.

    Bob,
I really like the design so far, Although the graphic on the top of the trunck really should be larger and closer to the edges I think. The sigle red strip on the side of the tank looks nice, but your shot on the top of the tank is just a little to busy for my taste, just my 2 cents.
Akthough my faviorite line has always been "hey its your freaking bike, Paint it purple and hang some tassles if thats whatyou like".
    Looking good.

Currently tank will be plain black. I never found a pattern I liked that was not too busy AND went with the other parts.

The trunk lid pattern currently outlines the slight emboss/bump out flat region. I can scale up pattern though.

Yes to each their own, but sometimes you can stare at own work to long and end up with ugly crap. That is why I asked for feedback. :)

Re: ReTitled: My Vetter PinStriping - Applied to new paint j

Well I got my painted parts back (except for my fairing  ) and I applied the 3M reflective 1/8" tape to it as pinstripes.

If you didn't follow the whole tread, my intent was to make a custom version of the "traditional" Vetter touring graphics.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

While applying my first set of "inner" stripes, I forgot to look at my last design idea. I didn't leave two sides with a thicker gap between the stripes. In the long run I think it looks good.

I did the lower fairing pieces last. I very closely followed the curves when laying out the inner stripe. I do wish I had done this with the other pieces. But after hours of doing this, I was much better at stretching & curving the tape without breaking it (to often). I think the corners of the other pieces do look good, just not identical to the lowers. Only an ANAL/Ignorant/Stupid person will point it out to me in person 8O

While working in photo shop, I layed out the trunk 180 degrees wrong. The lock hole goes towards the back of the bike. So when I did my inner stripes, I still had this mental image in my mind (and background on my phone). So I put the larger inner curve towards the back not the front. Since I had not yet pressed hard down on the pressure sensitive semi-permanent tape, I was able to remove part of the stripes. Rather than redoing the entire middle section, I decided to have larger curves on the front and the back. I rather like it, though it does resemble the Dolby logo.

I'm just going to post a few pictures and a link to a sideshow, rather than all my WIP pictures. I still need to redo some trim pieces before final reassembly, but I'll post those pictures eventually.

FYI: Flash photos make it look like the red is reflecting yellow. It's not. It reflects red.

    Yup!

Though I wish my bro-in-law had finished my fairing. I really don't want to reassemble a spare just so I can ride when the weather gets better. (Or reinstall the stock headlight and blinkers).

It was not my intent to have multiple posts for one larger project, but it happened.

Here are more teaser pictures for anyone following THIS posts.
