I was just about to do some assembly on the big bore motor and have come up with 2 questions.

The manual states rod bolt nut must be at rod side, not the bearing cap side, or else!
The old rod bolts had the nuts fitted to the cap side, and have clear witness marks.

    Suggestions please.

Also as I did not pull down this engine myself, which way do the rods go?
Oil squirters to the front or rear of engine. Traditionally I would expect the thrust side of the piston.

    Ta.

    oh, engine is 37H000138

the arrow on the piston crown points to the oil hole in the rod but i forget if the arrow points to intake or exhaust.........

The parts fiche for the XJ750K it shows the nuts on the cap side. I assume your 750P is the same way.

I wouldn't be surprised if the nuts won't even go on properly if you assemble it the other way.

    Thanks.

New rod bolts with the nuts at the bottom :)

Rods fitted with oil squirters to the front (exhaust).

    Questions answered.

Reversing the rod bolt/nut is done for added clearance when putting a 900 crank in a 650 turbo case.

It's good machine shop practice to re-size the big ends when putting in new bolts. This ensures the circle is perfectly circular.
