RUNAWAY IDLE

    Hi everyone,

    Recently purchased '82 Yamaha XJ550 Seca,
    Cleaned up carbs, now when I start it, RMPs are normal and suddenly it goes up to 4-5k RPMs, and it stays there until I shut it off. And when I restart sometimes it starts normal, at 1k rpm and sometimes it goes up like crazy.

    Throttle cable is not getting stuck, choke is working fine. Butterflies seem to work properly.

    make sure you did not mix up choke and throttle cable.
    if the choke is on this will happen it is normal. when you shut choke off push down on the choke plungers see if it goes away.

    your idle knob Throttle stop may be turned in to far its in the back side of carbs between 2 and 3.next start looking for vacuum leaks at carb to manifold boots and throttle shaft seals

    carbs synced?

    what work have you done to carbs?
