Can anyone point me to a running carb sync tutorial? I'm using the two-bottle method but just need to know the specifics and steps of doing it on my bike...82 XJ650 Maxim. Thanks.

Click The Inofrmation Overload Hour link in my signature. Carb information begins 1/4 of the way down the page.
Have you gotten your valve clearances in spec?
    Are the carbs really clean?
    Fuel levels set?

Here's a great tutorial on using the Carbtune Synch Gauges:

Thanks k-moe. I read all through The Information Overload Hour and saw info and a link on bench syncing but nothing on the running sync. Valves are in spec. I've never cleaned the carbs or checked fuel levels. I just wanted to try to do the running carb sync. The bike runs pretty good. I'm just curious what a running sync will show on it. Maybe one day I'll feel comfortable taking the carbs off and totally going through them. For now, I just want to enjoy the bike and thought I'd fiddle around with the running sync. Len, I saw that video. Thanks. I'm looking for things more specific to my bike like which carbs to start with and which ones to sync with which ones. If I'm not mistaken, I should start with #1 and #2 and use the #1 adjustment screw to get those synced together. Then go to #3 and #4 and use the #4 adjustment screw to get those synced together. Then go to #2 and #3 and use the #2 adjustment screw to get those together. Then use my colortune to check my mixtures. Then check the sync again. Is that correct or am I am missing steps. Also, what type of setup do I need for fuel since the tank will be removed? Do I block of the vac line that was attached to the petcock?

Colortune first. Synch 1 to 2, then 3 to 4, then 1-2 to 3-4. Colortune again. You can use a piece of 2x4 to prop the rear of the tank and have enough room to work on the carbs (if you don't have a short fuel line). Otherwise you need to buy or fashion a aux tank. Several of use a 1 gallon gas tank from an old garden tractor or snow machine.

K-Moe do you have to colortune first if it runs pretty good because I am debating on getting one. So I should sync 1-2 then 3-4 then 2-3 and 1-4

Everything will synch to 3. Synch 1 to 2, 4 to 3 then using the screw at 2 synch both pairs. There isn't a synch screw for 3. Once they're synched the throttle knob will open or close all the butterflies at the same time.

Like Kmoe said...colortune first. You need to see what's going on in there.

At what RPM should the sync be done?
