    Hi All,

I recently bought a Seca 550, yea! I rode one for many miles in the eighties but did pitiful maintenance...now I want to fix one up. This is my 1st post.

I can see the steering head balls, see below. This seems wrong. What could be wrong and/or is this dangerous?

    Go Nuts

Yeas, that is a problem! It appears to be missing the race cover, we have those in stock, send us an e-mail for more info: info@xj4ever.com

Dissasemble, clean, and inspect carefully. Run open like that there has to be grit and dust in there. Might need to replace more than the cover.

I’d definitely upgrade to the tapered style bearings. Chacal sells them. Not that expensive either.

X2. All my bikes get this upgrade, if you’re taking it apart I can’t see any reason not to swap out the old balls with newer tapered bearings.

replacing the balls and races with oem is pricey. tapered is the way to go

if the action is smooth with no bump when you turn thr handle bars just replacing the cover is good . centerstand it and see if it feels a bit rough or bumpy. this is done with front wheel off of the ground
