Will the turbo 650 seca (82) rear air shocks fits properly on a standard 650 Maxim (82) (i.e. shock body diameter/clearance/length)? What is the ride/handling difference between standard and air shocks? Has anyone done this before and have riding impressions?

I took the air shocks off my turbo and put them on my Seca RJ and I have had no problems. Granted, a Seca is not a Maxim though. I had to do some fancy routing under the seat to avoid pinching the air hose but other than that, it was a direct swap.

I'm a bigger person and wanted to dial in the suspension a bit more with the air option. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I can swap the shocks between my 81 Seca and Max, expect you could do the same. Did it to hold the rear end up once, not to ride, sorry.

Yup - you can - all the XJ's use the same rear shocks - 12.5" eye-to-eye.
Note - you can also use some Hardley Driveableson shocks for heavier-duty replacements - you just need to change the bushings in the eyes to fit our Yamaha shock mount studs.
