I wish I could call it light weight but at 420 lbs it most definitely isn’t.

420 is really light for an all-steel framed machine with a steel tank.

    95 pounds lighter than stock

and 13 pounds heavier than an XJ550H

    you could remove the centerstand.

So the fun begins. I haven’t taken my carbs apart yet as I haven’t had the need to do it and they were rebuilt before I bought my bike. As far as I know it has stock jetting. I am at sea level and thinking about going to 126/43 jets. What’s everyone’s opinion on it? Plugs look extremely lean, but bike runs great.

    At 520# / 82 bhp = 6.34#
420# / 82 bhp = 5.12# ~ To have the same pwr to wt ratio at original wt. you'd have to have 101.56 bhp
    520# / 5.12 bhp = 101.56 At least to my calculation.
My goal is more modest but still significant, a target weight of 450# / 82 bhp = 5.48# that would require 95.62 bhp
for the stock wt of 524# I used 82 bhp for the power output of a 1982 750 Maxim that I found online specs. I hope it's correct?
    Cheers, 50gary

    1. All the machines were jetted the same regardless of the altitude of the origninal dealer.
    2. We have members who have ridden from near sea-level to 14,000 feet and not noticed a loss of performance.
    3. Never believe what a PO says he did, ulness you know the person and you were there when the work was done.

Note that statement #2 above only applies to a stock intake and exhaust system.

Received new jets and gaskets, cleaned carbs, and bike runs great. Perhaps I went little too rich for the pilot key cause it smells rich but main jets are either on point or need to go up 1 size. It’s been raining for past two days out here and can’t really go on a proper test ride. But no popping on deceleration and hanging idle problem is solved. Bike accelerates smooth without any dead spots and pulls strong.

A little rich at idle's is not such a bad thing. As long as the transition to the mains is smooth, and she pulls away from a stop well, I'd leave the pilots where they are.

Still need to think of a place to nicely mount license plate. So far my only option is to mount it on a bracket to either axle or factory bottom shock mount on the left side since I still have that pin in the differential.

Also, after mounting and wiring in tail light I am kind of disappointed of how it looks, doesn’t flow with the tail section of the bike.

What differential? You only have one drive wheel. ;)

Agree with 50gary, wet weight of XJ550H should be in the neighborhood of 450 lbs.
