I've been struggling with my XJ750 managing a smooth low idle and power transition during takeoff. Played with carb/idle settings, tried to confirm if vacuum issues. Kudos to T.O. Cycle in Toronto for comment about keeping a smooth throttle cable route. I had changed bars and never properly re-routed the cables. Yesterday I pulled the tank and re-routed the throttle and clutch cables. No tight bends any more.

NOW accurately adjusted the idle without worry of rev changes when I hard turn the bars one way, opened the idle screws a half turn and her idle issues have all but vanished. Not perfect, but barely an issue. Should have tried this a LONG time ago. I may still replace the throttle seals over the winter, but at least now it's not an urgent issue.

yes great find. . when ever a problem arises it is best to look at the simplest cheapest things first, assuming a major failure can cause you to overlook simple things.
look at the whole system involved in what you are working on.

    example
no fuel flowing through petcock unless on prime. " guess i have to rebuild the petcock"
replace the vacuum hose first. or test (or suck on a tube connected to) the vac port to see if the fuel flows from the fuel outlet.

many things have simple fixes but they are often overlooked in the first suggestions or thought of what may be wrong.
