starter problems

    I have a 1982 maxim 650. when I push the starter button the starter engages for a second and then spins free. is this a starter or starter clutch problem. if its the starter..easy, if its the starter clutch..how hard is that to replace? I posted this in another forum, but I guess this is where i should have posted it..sorry.

    I had starter problems too, and was unsure if it was the starter, starter clutch, etc.. Here's what it sounded like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yw9jkb3NtrM

    The solenoid checked out, and since I had just bought another starter as a spare, I swamped them out, and sure enough it started up.

    Probably not of much help... but I tried. :)
