Stuck trying to start. HELP!

    Started my 1981 xj650 for the first time this season and the starter button is continuing to fire. The button itself is not stuck.

    The only way to stop it was to disconnect the battery. I am totally new and working on bikes and not sure where to start. Please help.

    If the ignition is off.
    Then the starter solenoid is stuck on.
    Just near the battery and the positive is wired to it directly.

    Give the metal part of the solenoid a few sharp taps and connect again to see what's what before reconnecting the battery
    Could need replacing!
