I was given a box containing 4 stripped carbs to rebuild (XJ550J 5k5). Included conveniently enough were 4 rebuild kits. My question is this, where to the O-rings in the kit go (i think I know these but figure I'll be sure), and where does the small ?stainless steel? disk go? the disk in particular is not int the box of parts, and the blurry parts diagram I have doesn't seem to show it either. (atleast it doesn't jump out at me).

My kit includes the same contents as the on in this photo:

The little discs are new pilot screw block-off caps, you don't need to install those.

As for the rest of the parts, I believe this should help: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=31061.html

There is an o-ring on the outside of the float valve seat, a small o-ring on each float bowl drain screw, and a tiny o-ring on each pilot screw along with an equally tiny but very important washer.

Once back together, it is very important that you "wet-set" your float levels using fuel and clear tubing. The Mikunis are especially sensitive to float levels, and the spec is +/- 1mm. That procedure is covered here: http://www.xj4ever.com/setting%20fuel%20levels.pdf

Are there not (6) "O" rings for the fuel rail ??

They wouldn't be part of a normal "carb kit." Remember, "official" service doesn't involve breaking the rack.

The factory book doesn't even admit to the need to pull the pilot screws.
