Suggested Oil??

So the Factory Spec on my XJ700 for oil is 20w40 above 44 degress F. Or 10w30 below 56 degrees F. I live in humid VA Beach where its usually between 70 and 90 degrees in the summer. What Oil and What brand Oil Filter should I use?

 

SLKid, run the specified 20w40 in the brand of your choice.
I personally run Castrol.

Castrol MAKES 20W40? In Motorcycle oil? You can run 20W50 if you want too. The main thing is to stay away from the new automotive oils that say "enhanced fuel economy" or the like; they contain friction modifiers that can mess with your clutch and starter clutch.

The best policy is to use "motorcycle oil" and you'll be fine. FRAM filters come with the o-rings which colors my preference.

Sorry for any confusion Fitz, I should have worded my response with a little more thought.
I meant to say that one should run the recommended viscosity and that the choice of brands was vast.
Good to point out to avoid "energy saving" oils.
Castrol GTX 20W50 has served me well for over a decade in my bikes and meets all manufacturer specifications. This is by no means the only oil available but it is, in my very humble opinion, a reasonable choice balancing the bikes needs with the cost of motorcycle specific oil. To date (19+yrs and counting) I've not experienced any oil related failures nor seen any wear on my engines using this oil.
I can recommend the Fram filters as well for the very points Fitz makes, that and their availability and cost ($6 a pop out here).
