tank sealer kit

    Anyone have any experienec with rust removal and resealing a tank? I am trying to debate between the KBS kit or the Caswell kit. thanks in advance!

    Not familiar with the KBS. Caswell is the one I use at the shop.

    Some things to consider:

    With the Caswell you only need to remove loose rust, surface can remain. In fact, Caswell claims some surface rust yields better adhesion. If you're planning to use acid for rust removal you cannot leave the petcock and fuel sender on - the acid will attack them. You will need to make some sort of block off plates for them.

    Temperature is critical with the Caswell. Too cool and it doesn't want to flow, too warm and it cures fast. It seems to work best between 70-80F. I just did one Wednesday at 68F and the stuff was moving pretty slow. I'd think the weather in Tampa would be about perfect for it right now.

    Caswell is what I used on one of my tanks. Great stuff, but as MiCarl pointed out, make sure it's applied within the recommended temp range. Be sure to give it a day or so to cure before adding fuel.

    You can get the block off plates from Chacal, or you can make your own.
