I am an "Old School" guy. There are techniques for attending to matters of tuning, maintenance and repairs, that I will adhere to forever, having learned the tips and tricks from top professionals.

I'd say most of them are under the umbrella of "Going the extra yard" when doing something, so that what you might have skipped ... being up against the clock to get someone's bike out of the shop, doesn't haunt you and become a "Come-backer."

Before I bought my MotionPro Carb Sticks; I'd spend 25 to 45 minutes syncing-up carbs with a single vacuum gauge.
The bike got synced; true. But, the Carb Sticks cut the time down to a few minutes and provide a nice visual when photographed or observed by others.

I've spent more than an hour "Tweaking" mixture screws to get a bike purring and running in tip-top condition. "Listening" for the right settings; and waiting to hear the engine react to the fine tuning.

I was among those who regarded the ColorTune Plug as a novelty item; no substitute for having the tuning skill to feel and hear an engine running right after "Finding the sweet-spot" on the mixture screws.

Then, ... I borrowed and used a ColorTune Plug.

Simply stated:

My 750 Max's engine cannot be further fine-tuned.
After being synchronized with columns of mercury; and fine-tuned using a ColorTune Plug ... my 750:

Starts instantly.
Idles at 900 rpm's without a trace of fluctuion.
And runs like a Gazelle fleeing a wild fire!

I am serious about doing my fine tuning!

There's a Brand New, ColorTune Plug Kit, in a nice, little case I made for it ... in my drawer of Tuning and Test Equipment.

ColorTuning is the livin'-end!

I hear ya, brother. I am fanatical about tuning my bike, not feeling comfortable until everything is as it should be. What's the point of riding a bike that isn't living up to its full potential? I've done three oil changes in the past 3 months, changed the spark plugs twice (honestly, the second time was due to my fouling them) and changed the oil filter bolt. I've adjusted everything that I can, and soon will be ohm testing all the connections on my bike. After a recent trip to Canada and a Carb clinic, I have learned the value of a well tuned bike, enough that I recently ordered my own carbtune and color tune plug.

Hardcore, baby!

Hey MICarl,

Myself and another guy are thinking of having a mini carb tuning clinic this spring. You're welcome to come on over. He has a carbtune and a colortune plug, so will I... we'll have more tuning stuff than we will bikes! If its here at my house, we'll have to do a BBQ as well, then a Wahoo ride afterwards.
