Ok... so i'm gonna paint my bike. Economic conditions dictate that i'm going to be doing it with a rattle can instead of taking it to a body shop to be pro sprayed.... what products or steps produce the best results? I occationally do some finish repairs on guitars, so im pretty proficient with the rattle can.... what paint and clearcoat should I use? Thanks!

Lots of posts about it here.

    Clean and degrease
    Blast if possible
    Aircraft remover also works

    Sand, clean & prime
Wet sand, paint, wet sand paint, etc
Clear coat, wet sand, clear, etc

I think most people suggest automotive paints and high temp stuff for appropriate parts.

BIGGEST thing with any pain, is prep work, Spend 3/4 of your time cleaning and preping, not painting. or it wont stick.

And dust is your worst nightmare for any paintjob so after you sand it all down, go over it a few times with a tach cloth or other materials to get it 100% clean, or prep spray now sold for paint.

And make damn sure your clear coat is an auto paint that is solvent safe. If not, you'll be doing it over after your first fill up when you splash petrol on the paint.
