As per my first 550 I have polished teh edges of the head fins so they look silver on black. How do I now stop the 'white rust' or will it not form quickly enough if used ? I was going to hand bush some clear lacquer maybe but my hand isn't alll that steady and it might just burn off.. Thoughts ?

If you are using it and keep it clean you would only need to re-polish once a year or every other year.

If you fill you need to put clear on Dupli-Color makes a clear engine paint that you can spray on and it wont hurt to be on the black. Don't know if you can get it over there or not though.

Too keep them bright, I wipe 400 grit sandpaper on the edge of the fins once each summer. I suppose after a few hundred years my heat fin will be worn down....

You could paint them with some kentucky chrome (bright silver paint)

i used to hold 1000 wet/dry paper on the end of a stick and just rub them, two at a time when they looked bad. only takes a few minutes
