Hello, I've got my first 650secca here recently. The old stock headlight is pretty beat up. I'm looking to update it with a LED set up. I'm pretty sure I would have to downgrade to a 7in and then get a whole new mounting kit as well. What have you all done with yours? Any recommendations??

A new bulb usually does the trick.
Pics of the headlight please. They are getting harder to find, and are worth saving if possible.

The Seca 650 doesn't have anything special to it electrically, so you can do an LED conversion just about any way that you'd like to.

Well I've found the original housing is bigger then the 7in led so I may have to buy an entirely new bucket.
The old bucket is too beat up to still use

get a standard 7 inch bucket that is from any other xj with a round headlight you will need spacers to mount in the current ears

Appologies for trampling over your thread, but has anyone got experience of fitting h4 led lamps instead of the halogens? I'm probably going to be happy with the light, but cutting 5A from the alternator load has to be worth it?

I tried lots of led replacements in a, few vehicles including xj. In my experience none of them looked right, or the high low was not right. I went with a sliver star halogen ultimately. If you find a bulb that's a good drop in please let us know.

When I got my Seca 650 many years ago it had a beat up, ugly and poorly working square headlight. It was replaced as soon as possible with the lens and bucket from a first generation Suzuki SV650. It works well, fit easily and is still there. I would prefer to go back to the factory set up and have acquired a nice lens but the bucket was rusted out. Don't scrap your bucket! Another thought for the 7 inch LED idea is to find a Harley DayMaker set. Not going to be cheap but is 7 inch and reported to be awesome light output. Good luck.

You had a Seca 750. It and the Maxim 750 are the only XJs that had square headlights.

Be mindful of the socket and the wiring; I put an H4 in my Ducati Monster's bucket but an extended night ride w/ the hi beam on melted part of the harness. Wound up replacing the bulb socket with an automotive high-temp-rated one and haven't had a problem since.

Nope, sorry, you are incorrect. I have a Seca 650 and when I got it the headlight had been replaced with the awful, incorrect, poorly and improperly fitting square headlight.

Someone fitting different headlight does not make me incorrect about how Yamaha built the machine. Your post didn't mention that the hedlight had been changed, just that it had a square one.

That's a good question. It was a while ago now; I'll have to take a look & get back to you.
