What's the best way to clean the inside of a master cylinder?

    My master cylinder is full of this chalky white residue, I have been going at it with a small screwdriver but not making much of a difference. Any suggestions?

    I have used a dremel with a brass wire brush and lots of brake cleaner .Brass will not mar surface, do not use a steel brush.

    Work smarter, not harder.
    Fill it with brake fluid and let it soak. That will help to free up the crud, then you can use a bit of scrubbing pad to clean it out.
