    I am looking to put a 1981 xs1100 motor into a 1984 maxim 1100 frame (I am assuming the 1984 must be a xj - I haven't seen it yet).

Will it bolt right in or will it be fairly tricky to do.

Please help me oh wise ones...

Your '84 Maxim is really an '82 model leftover titled as an '84.
The motor should drop right in, but someone else might have to tell you if the carbs or ignition were exactly the same.

yes it will bolt in there, but the ignition is different, the easiest thing to do is swap your ignition parts from your 84 engine onto your xs engine, the cwrbs will work, but again getting everything to line up like choke lever, xs has a manual lever and xj has a cable , on my bike i swapped the choke or fuel enrichment mechanism from the xj carbs to the xs carbs, it did work, i also swapped out the alternator from the xj to the xs.. it can be done and will work..
