So ive begun the construction of a new harness for my bike, following the minimal wiring diagram that ive attached to this post.

Ive laid everything out on some poster board and taped everything in place. I didnt get the opportunity to start with a nice factory harness but rather one that was taped up into a rats nest. After researching and scratching my head for a few hours im in need of some help.

After laying everything out based on the minimal wiring diagram, I have a few questions.

    1) I don't have a reference as to where the relays and diode etc all fit into this diagram? the stock wiring diagrams are rather confusing and crowded. If someone wouldnt mind editing the image I attach or pointing out where the relays and diodes fit in to the diagram, that would be amazing.

    2) Im assuming the starter is "grounded" when its bolted to the engine correct? The diagram is throwing me off with the 2 wires coming from it.

    3) There is also no mention of wiring in the kickstand kill switch etc.
I want to keep the kickstand switch when the bike is done. but if I do not wire it in right now, will it prevent the bike from starting? I just want to wire up the bare minimum right now to see if the bike starts.

Thank you all for the help ive received on this forum so far, I realize this is a rather big question. But i have researched what I can and am having trouble understanding.

    cheers!

this is a minimum wiring diagram no safety circuits .
those grounds are all frame/system grounds

battery grounds to motor. motor has 1 or 2 grounds going to frame
all wiring grounds connect to common ground wire which grounds to frame.

    which bike is this for?

    82 maxim 650?

you would want to look at the Haynes xj650 J and K wiring diagram

some relays have a latching diode inside of them, these diodes are not part of the diode block
latching diodes run from hot output side of relay to the input side of the relay coil so when the relay closes it has power to coil.

the resistor and diode in this block is for the oil light test and low oil level switch.
the single diodes shown are for headlight relay and neutral switch

G goes to oil light l/w to starter switch

engine stop switch, run switch, kill switch are the same switch which is on right control.

also what we all call a solenoid is called starter relay
