I would like to know how to connect a new tachometer gauge to my cafe racer to my original Yamaha Xj 750 wiring system. Anyone who nows colour on the three wires to be connected except from backlight wiring that I already have solved when I connected my speedo meter.

I have following instructions from gauge install :
Long red - positive, Long Black - Negative
Short Green - Ground , Short Yellow / Black-Engine Signal
Short Black - power / ignition lock positive.

    Thanks in advance..

all tachometers need 3 wires, +12v, ground, and a signal from the - side of the coils
other wires are for internal lights or something else the tach does.
    i would try
long red to a switched positive
    long black to the frame
try these two first and see if the light comes on
short yellow/black to the - side of the coil, this should be a gray wire that originally went to the - coil. the -side of the coils is the wire that goes back to the TCI.
short green is the same as the long black
short black sounds like it's the same as the long red but i have problems hooking red to black.
looks like the short wires run the tach and the long wires are for a light

Excellent - will check and probably install late February as I have some more to reassemble before I can start her up.

    Thanks for quick reply;)
